Group Project April 12, 2011

crafts-tree-branches-800x800.jpg

My idea for the group project was something like this image, except instead of the leaves,
I would use magnolia leaves and the red berries that we can find on campus.

I would make many of the trees by using sticks- creating nature by using nature.

Kimono Design- March 29, 2011

This kimono represents Japanese culture very well.
The repetition of Japanese cherry blossom trees in the bottom and some other parts the kimono.
I also like the color contrast black and white which makes the kimono stand out even more.

Money as Art March 17, 2011

I am absolutely in love with this image.
I like the colors of the bill, I love the shapes and the flowers.
I think it is the most creative image I have ever seen made with dollar bills.

Synesthesia March 3, 2011

This image represents the visual reputation of this particular rhapspdy.
It looks like colorful rain drops have fallen on the note.

Money Design March 1, 2011

This 4 dollar bill is interesting because there are different colors, although fainted.
I think the fact that the bill is fainted is the beauty of the bill.

Chuck Close February 22, 2011

I like this painting of Chuck Close the best because it is interesting. It is interesting in the fact that little patterns can make Emma's eyes as blue as they really are.
This painting is called Emma. Emma is a remarkable 113-color Japanes-style woodcut and it took over 18 months to complete.

Repetition of Form February 17, 2011

This image identifies as a use of repetition of form because it used the same pattern to make it look like a tunnel.

Andy Goldsworthy February 10, 2011

Andy Goldsworthy
Large fallen oak tree used leaves with branches still attached for supporting structure inside ball
Jenny Nobles-Gill Dumriesshire
15 September 1985

Most of Andy Goldsworthy's art works are interesting, but this artwork is probably the most interesting of all, that is not temporary.
It looks like Goldsworthy didn't even have to do much to make it an artwork, which I like a lot about. It looks so natural and simply pretty, without too much embellishment. It is relaxing in the way of looking at nature.

Louise Nevelson February 3, 2011

Source: hayleygilchrist.wordpress.com
This image is called "Night Leaf," plexiglas sculpture by Louise Nevelson. 1969
This sculpture is word for word, night(dark) leaf.
This two-dimension sculpture is really neat and it also illustrates unity in shape.
The leaves are shaped the same and there isn't any certain patterns in the sculpture but
some leaves are opened and some leaves aren't, which forms sort of unity.

Lucas Samaras February 1, 2011

Box No. 85
Pins and stones on cardboard. 1973
Sources: http://www.areaofdesign.com/americanicons/samaras.htm

Box No. 85 is interesting because it is rich in embellishment and kind of seductive in ways, very attractive. In the box, Samaras is known to use his own pins to illustrate that most of his art work is like his own family. Samaras uses his own "stuff" for most of his art work. It looks like a children's craft or something that a child might find it simple and pretty.

Cornell Box January 27, 2011

220px-cornell_cassiopeia_11.jpg
This image is called Cassiopeia 1.
Joseph Cornell reflects his interests in his collages. He also illustrated poetry in his collage boxes.
His collages are meant to illustrate constructivism and surrealism.
He has many collections such as the soap bubble sets, the machine series, the pink palace series, the hotel sets and aviary series. The image above is Cassiopeia.
I like this collage the most out of all of Cornell's collages because the image makes me feel like I have my own cassiopeia in my box; therefore, I can see it anytime I want to because it is mine.

Form and Content January 25, 2011

cool flower art

Many artists relate form and content, which includes color, shape, pattern and duration. Artists also strive to establish the relationship between form and content to show the way that something is made to fit with what the artist intend for the work to be seen as.

In the image above, the artist put some matching cubics on the petals of the flower to make the work to be seen as sparkling or shining flower, not just a beautiful flower.
The flower looks more embellished.

Definition of Design January 20 2011

Definition of Design: To create or contrive for a particular purpose or effect
                   http://www.thefreedictionary.com/design

  Super Mario Bros. 3
This image expresses the definition very well because this game (Super Mario) is designed for little kids to play, rather than for adults.

Halo Wars Cinematic Screenshot

This image of Halo Wars is more suitable for adults than Super Mario.

I chose these images to show that to design something, games in this case, is for particular purposes or effect, such as suitable age difference for video games. Not only to game design, but the definition applies to many different types of design.
